Graceful Non-Linear Work in a Graceless Linear World

inthewilderless.substack.com

I finished doing my taxes (🎉🥳), and am left with some questions. Existential questions, logistical questions, practical questions; questions about change, questions about living among ruins, questions about the intricacies of foreign employment tax law.

It’s an odd slurry, but somewhere at the core of it, the questions simplify:

How?

As in, how do I make a life I’m proud of? How can a one-man business that moves slowly make it past the tax bottleneck? How can I forge ahead with the work of inner transformation, and the work of creating the material I need to create for others, and the work of administrating strategically enough to not go broke? How do I help create a society where a business that sustains itself is sustainable, rather than needing to sustain itself plus administrative expenditures plus 20% extra for Uncle Sam? How do I survive long enough to stay in the long game?

My Tidal Pool

I can’t remember where, but I read a very evocative description of tidal pools one time. Specifically about the role of tidal pools in evolution. These pools are liminal environments, stabilized by the mixture of protection and exposure they offer.
